Chinese New Year 2012 Festival

Where: Luther Jackson Middle School (Falls Church, VA)
When: January 21st (Saturday)
Time: Parade starts at 2pm.
Hosted by the Asian Community Service Center, this festival offers live performances,  a parade, games, chinese food, cooking workshops, and more.

Sugarloaf Crafts Festival
$9 per person / Under 12 & Parking – Free
Where: Dulles Expo Center (Chantilly, VA)
When: January 27-29th, 2012
Time: Fri & Sat (10am-6pm) | Sun (10am-5pm)
Over 250 top artisans display their pottery, jewelry, home decor, sculpture, glass, photography, and much more. Also features live jazz music, and specialty gourmet food.

The Washington Auto Show displaces the latest innovations in the auto-world with over 700 new makes and models of cars, trucks, mini-vans and sport utility vehicles from over 42 domestic and import automakers. This year they’ll be featuring Redskins Cornerback DeAngelo Hall, WWE® Superstar Randy Orton, Washington Caps Center Brooks Laich and Defenseman John Carlson, traditional Chinese lion and dragon dancers to help celebrate the Chinese New Year.

 Come celebrate the Year of the Dragon! In ancient China, the celestial Dragon represents an emperor and power. Today, it is the ultimate auspicious symbol signifying success and happiness. Join Chef Tania Hayek Mercer as she makes these delicious dishes and explains their symbolism for the Lunar New Year: Whole Black Bass with Aromatic Trio, Long Life Noodles in a Tangy Hoisin Sauce, and Eight Treasure Sweet Dumplings with Chocolate Coconut Ganache. **No Pre-registration required**

Maryland Polar Bear Plunge
Minimum of $50 in Pledges for Participating Plungers | Free for Spectators
Where: Sandy Point State Park (1100 East College Parkway, Annapolis, MD)

Time: Registration @ 8pm | Mass Plunges @ 1pm & 3pm
The Maryland Polar Bear Plunge in Annapolis is a charity event sponsored by the Maryland State Police in support of the Special Olympics. Each January, thousands of participants of all ages are daring enough to take a dip in the wintry waters of the Chesapeake Bay. In addition to the Plunges, attendees will enjoy a full-day winter festival featuring the Robert Andrews Salon & Spa (who will be offering spa treatments), the Carnival FunFest tent with carnival food & games, Astro Events Kids Zone, the Rams Head Ice Lodge and Beer Garden, food and other displays. Ravens Quarterback Joe Flacco has been named Honorary Chairman of the Maryland Polar Bear Plunge and will be returning for his 4th straight year. “
