Church Street in Vienna, VA is one of my favorite places to walk down during the Summer, because there are so many little shops, restaurants, cafes and other miscellaneous boutiques lined up down the strip, with flower bushes and trees that line the road on each side. The shops close pretty early in the Town of Vienna, so I prefer going here for lunch.

Sushi Yoshi never disappoints. They’re located on the corner of where Center street meets Church Street, and offer outdoor seating; which is perfect when the weather is as nice as it has been these past few days. This is my second time coming here, and the sushi, as it is reviewed on yelp, is always fresh. It isn’t just clearly obvious, but you can also taste the difference between a grocery store’s box of chewy sashimi, and Sushi Yoshi’s soft, fresh cut salmon. If you aren’t aware of this difference – skip the grocery store and try this place to satisfy your Sushi craving for a night out instead. I especially like the rolls that they incorporate mangos and their spicy mango sauce into, because the unexpected sweetness actually works pretty well with fish such as salmon and yellowtail. Also, don’t be afraid of the Jalapeno Chilli Sauce – it’s a lot sweeter and refreshing than it is spicy.

I’ve known about Nielsen’s Frozen Custard place for a couple years now, but have always gotten just a scoop of their famous frozen custard each and every time I visited – until recently. After I ordered my boring scoop of custard, my friend stepped up to order this: A vanilla frozen concrete, with chocolate cookie dough, peanut butter sauce, hot fudge, and broken oreo cookie pieces. By the time this heaping cup of overflowing goodness came out – I tossed my dull cup of history, and dug into that bucket of sweet, creamy, sugary death. You’ll sound a little ridiculous ordering it, listing all the toppings you want mixed into your concrete and all – but you have to try it. If you’re every having a bad day – take yourself here, order that concrete, and take a walk down Church Street to soak in the Sun, the trees, the warmth of that small town; because I guarantee there’s no way that your life won’t seem at least a bit brighter afterwards.
